Yingtan is seated in the northeastern part of the Jiangxi Province. There are three railways and two national highways passing through the city, linking it to other major provinces such as Zhejiang and Anhui.
The industry sector accounted for 54% of the GDP in 2015. Due to its rich copper resources, the city has established copper smelting and processing as its mainstream industry. Other major industries in the city include electricity production and supply, metallurgy, pharmaceuticals, raw chemicals and chemical products, pharmaceutical and construction materials.
Yingtan has attracted investment by many large domestic companies, including Jiangxi Copper, Mengna Corp and Ningbo Copper Group.
