Zhanjiang is located on the eastern coastline of the Leizhou Peninsula. It is an intersection of the Guangdong Province, Hainan Province and Guangxi Province.
The city is accessible by a well-established railway and highway networks. Zhanjiang Airport also offers flights to major domestic cities.
Zhanjiang Port, one of the major international ports in Guangdong, have berths for oil, mineral and containers.
Zhanjiang has a competitive fishery sector, commercial fish and shrimp industries are well developed with a comprehensive cluster including seedlings incubation, processing, trade, feed production, fishery machinery, fishery medicine, logistics, etc.
Industry accounted for 34% of the GDP in 2015. The mainstream light industries includes food and beverages, plastic products, furniture and textiles, while the heavy industries are mainly supported by oil refining, electrical power, machinery, chemicals, petrochemicals, metallurgy and paper-making.
PetroChina, Sinopec and CNOOC, the three largest state-owned oil enterprises in China, have set up their production lines in Zhangjiang due to its port facilities and access to gas and oil resources.
The service sector has emerged as the largest economic contributor to Zhanjiang, accounting for 43% of the GDP in 2015.
