Zunyi is located in the northern part of the Guizhou Province. The city is designated as a regional hub in MOFCOM’s development plan (2015-2020) of distributive trade and logistics. It can be easily reached by highways and railways, including the Zuiyi-Guiyang Expressway and Chengdu-Guiyang Railway.
Zunyi played an important role in the revolutionary history of China. In 1935, Mao Zedong was first elected to the leadership of the Communist Party of China during the Long March at the Zunyi Meeting.
The agricultural sector accounted for 16% of the GDP in 2015. Grain production of the city contributed approximately one fourth of the province's total.
Industry accounted for 37% of the GDP in 2015. Major industries include coal, tobacco and brewing. Kweichow Moutai is an example of leading brewing enterprises in the city.
Tourism is the most important pillar of the service sector. The city is famous for waterfalls, luxuriant forests and the Karst landforms.
