In which circumstance are citizens of Hong Kong entitled to apply for a mainland residence permit and what are the benefits of having such a permit?
- Public transport usage, including domestic flights and rail-links
- Banking, insurance, securities, futures, and other financial amenities
- Shopping, securing entry to parks and sporting venues and full participation in cultural/entertainment/business/tourism activities
- Other privileges as determined by the central government and/or the relevant local authorities
In the first instance, applicants should submit the relevant application materials to the local police station or household registration office as designated by the Public Security Bureau of the county-level People’s Government with jurisdiction over their residential location. Once issued, all such residence permits are initially valid for a period of five years and may be renewed upon expiry at the discretion of the issuing authority.
