Q: Can meat be imported to China through just any port?

A: In accordance with the Administrative Provisions for the Inspection and Quarantine of Imported Meat Products (Announcement No. 49 [2004]), imported meat products must be imported through designated ports shown on the Permit for the Quarantine of Entry Animals and Plants. The General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ) is responsible for the administration of inspection and quarantine of imported meat products and for planning the construction of entry port inspection and quarantine facilities, and will designate the entry ports on the basis of the inspection and quarantine facilities and technical capabilities of the ports.
