Q: How Does a Doctor Register in China?

A: In line with China’s Administrative Measures for the Registration of Medical Practitioners, doctors intending to practise in a medical or health care institution have to register with the public health administrative department that governs that particular institution. Doctors intending to practise in several institutions within the same region should designate one institution as their primary institution and register with the relevant public health administrative department.

Doctors need to submit the required documentation/support materials for registration, including:

  • An application form for the registration of doctor
  • A two-inch, half-length, front-view without headgear photo against a white background that was taken within the last six months
  • Proof of employment issued by the relevant medical, disease-prevention or health care institution
  • Other documents as specified by the relevant health and family planning administrative department at (or above) the provincial level

The newly revised Administrative Measures for the Registration of Medical Practitioners have come into effect since 1 April 2017.
