Q: What Are Cross-border E-commerce Bonded Products?

A: Cross-border e-commerce operators in China normally import foreign goods in large quantities and store them in bonded zones. Consumers making purchases by way of cross-border e-commerce have to complete cross-border transaction via an e-commerce platform (e.g. cross-border e-commerce experience store) approved by and linked to Customs. Products that are considered articles for personal use will go through customs clearance procedures where Customs will levy personal postal articles tax if applicable.

Cross-border e-commerce bonded import goods would, after being released by Customs, be delivered to consumers from the special customs supervision area and bonded logistics centre. Under normal circumstances, the goods may not be collected on the spot. For goods purchased and collected at bonded goods display stores, the business operator is responsible for paying import related taxes such as customs duty and value-added tax.
