Q: What are the qualifications of the chief representative of a foreign company’s representative office in China?

A: During its operation period, a representative office may appoint one chief representative and a number of representatives, i.e. general representatives. In case of any personnel changes, the representative office must inform the industry and commerce administration department.

Candidates for chief representative of a representative office must meet the following requirements:

1. Aged 18 or above.

2. Any person listed in the alert category in China’s credit information system may not serve as chief representative or general representative of any foreign company’s resident representative office during the period of the listing.

Foreigners may serve as chief representative or general representative but are required to present copies of their identity document.
