Q: What is China certificate of origin?

A: A certificate of origin (CO) is an official document used to certify where an export product is produced or manufactured, i.e. a nationality certificate of goods in international trading. In order to be eligible for specific preferential tariff treatments, import countries usually will require the proof of a certificate of origin. In China, certificates of origin are given to export products in accordance with the “Regulations of the People’s Republic of China on the Origin of Import and Export Goods”.

Registered consigners of export goods can apply for the certificate of origin at the local entry-exit inspection and quarantine departments under the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine Administration or the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade and its local branches.

To become a registered consigner, export company should register in the certificate bureaus and submit the necessary documents required by the certificate bureaus. For further information, please refer to the official website of CCPIT Shaoxing Branch and the sample of CO.
