Q: What is the major development focus of the internet and artificial intelligence in China?

A: China’s National Development and Reform Commission, Ministry of Science and Technology and Ministry of Industry and Information Technology announced the Three-year Implementation Plan for "Internet Plus" Artificial Intelligence in May 2016, which calls for stepped-up efforts in strengthening the application of artificial intelligence (AI) innovation and guiding the industry cluster development, promoting AI in priority areas of the national economy and society in the next three years. The development of new models and new formats of "internet plus" will be accelerated to foster the growth of the AI sector.

By 2018, it is expected to have built the basic resources and innovative platforms for AI, basically established AI industrial system, innovative service system and a standardised system, had basic core technology breakthroughs, synchronisation of the overall technology and industrial development with international peers as well as a lead in part of the application and system-level technology. A number of world’s leading AI backbone enterprises will be fostered in key areas, and an innovative and active, open and collaborative, green eco-safe AI sector with solid foundation will be initially in place, forming a large-scale AI application market that is worth more than RMB100 billion.
