Q : Our company has some cargoes exporting from Taiwan to Guangdong. We find out from the website of China’s Customs authorities that the relevant most favoured nation (MFN) rate is 8% while general rate is 80%. What is the tax rate applicable to our goods?

A: Under the Cross-Straits Economic Cooperation Framework Agreement (ECFA) signed between the Chinese mainland and Taiwan, products made in Taiwan are entitled to import duty rates lower than MFN rates. For details, please see the Cross-Straits Economic Cooperation Framework Agreement (Chinese) issued by Taiwan’s Bureau of Foreign Trade under the Ministry of Economic Affairs.
