China Plans to Boost National Employment Level
The State Council has announced a number of measures aimed at boosting employment on a national basis. Foremost among these is utilising the RMB100 Unemployment Insurance Fund to enhance the skill base of the country’s workforce and to retrain workers unemployed as a result of business failures.
In addition, moves will be made to increase the number of students enrolled at the country’s vocational colleges to more than one million. At the same, a number of supportive measures specifically targetting recent graduates, ex-servicemen and any other group struggling to find employment will be introduced.
The new measures have been approved at the 31 July State Council Executive Meeting despite the national employment level remaining stable in the first six months of the year and the number of newly-created urban employment opportunities already two-thirds of the way to the annual target.
