Joint Statement on Establishing All-weather Strategic Co-operative Partnership between the People’s Republic of China and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan
In Islamabad, on 20 April 2015, China and Pakistan issued a Joint Statement on Establishing an All-weather Strategic Co-operative Partnership between the People’s Republic of China and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. Both parties agreed to adopt a “1+4” economic co-operation model, which will see the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor act as the engine, while Pakistan’s Gwadar Port, the energy and transport infrastructure facilities, as well as industrial co-operation, will act as pillars.
The two countries will actively advance a number of key co-operation projects, including Phase II of the upgrade and renovation of the Karakoram Highway (the Thakot-Havelian section), an expressway serving the east bay of Gwadar Port, a new international airport, an expressway from Karachi to Lahore (the Multan-Sukkur section), the Lahore rail transport orange line, the Haier-Ruba economic zone, the China-Pakistan cross-national optic fibre network, the implementation of a terrestrial digital TV transmission standard in Pakistan, as well as the completion of a number of infrastructure facilities and energy and power projects. Moreover, the two countries determined to realise the Long-term Plan of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor as soon as possible.
